2027 Historic Preservation Board Photo Competition

Calling All Photographers!!

City of Orlando Photography Competition for the 2027 Historic Preservation Board Calendar

This year marks 50 years of the Historic Preservation Board’s service to our community. This milestone recognizes half a century of acknowledging the people, places, and stories that contribute to Orlando’s unique character. To commemorate this anniversary, the City of Orlando invites photographers to participate in the board’s calendar and photography contest themed:

“50 Years… Preserving Places that Tell Orlando’s History.”

For the 2027 edition, photographers are invited to submit photos of their favorite places that tell Orlando’s history. With 47 Individual Landmarks and over 1800 properties in 6 local historic districts, the HPB has recognized many buildings, homes, landmarks, and other physical structures that represent events, people, businesses and places that have significantly shaped Orlando into the city we know today. Orlando’s history is reflected not only in these well‑known sites but also in the everyday spaces that have been shaped by their preservation.

Submissions may highlight:
• neighborhood buildings or spaces with cultural or architectural significance
• storefronts or streetscapes associated with the city’s evolving history.
• community buildings or longtime gathering places
• lesser known structures with stories worth recognizing
• Structures and places that reflects the history of Orlando’s urban fabric

By showcasing a wide range of meaningful structures and places, this anniversary calendar honors the Historic Preservation Board’s 50-year legacy and celebrates how Orlando’s efforts to preserve the places that shape our history continues to grow through identification, education, preservation, and revitalization.

To be eligible for the calendar, subject matter should be from structures that are at least 50 years old (generally, pre-1975).

A $100 honorarium will be awarded to each photographer whose picture is selected for the 2027 Historic Preservation Board Calendar, sponsored by McCoy Federal Credit Union. Photos not labeled with a site address will be disqualified.

Submissions must be emailed or postmarked by July 6, 2026 at 5 p.m.

Anyone with questions about the calendar or photo competition can contact Jennifer Fritz-Hunter at 407.246.3416 or Jennifer.Fritz-Hunter@orlando.gov
